Try chapters in mmhmm instead of takes

Tip: Visit the mmhmm Help Center for more guides and tutorials on how to become an mmhmm pro.

The Takes feature from Studio is not available in mmhmm. Instead, we've created a better way to re-record and swap out recorded video sections called Chapters. Watch the video or read the steps below to learn more.

Start with recording chapters

  1. Download and install mmhmm. Then, log in with the same mmhmm account you use for Studio.
  2. Create a new presentation or open an existing one.
  3. Record a chapter by clicking Record at the bottom of the mmhmm window. This will start recording a new video segment called a chapter. A new chapter is also created as you advance through the slides in your presentation while recording.
  4. Click Stop to stop recording. This will open the video editor window where you can review the chapters you just recorded.

Re-recording a chapter

If you don't like how a chapter turned out after recording, you can re-record it:

  1. Close the video editor window and begin recording again.
  2. Once you're done recording, click Stop to stop recording. This will open the video editor with your most recently recorded chapter at the end of the chapter timeline.
  3. Click and drag this chapter to the spot in the video where you want it to be.

  4. Delete the unwanted, previously recorded chapter by selecting it and clicking Delete Chapter

Trim unwanted sections of chapters

To trim, or delete the parts of your recording you don't want:

  1. Select the chapter you want to trim.
  2. Click Trim to open the trimming tool. (Alternatively, double-click the chapter to open the trimming tool.)

  3. Click and drag each end of the video slider to define the part of the chapter you want to keep. The grayed out sections will be trimmed. Optionally, click Zoom in for more granular and precise control.

  4. Review your edit by using your mouse to hover over the video preview. Click play (or the space bar on your keyboard) to play the trimmed part of the chapter.
  5. Once you're satisfied with your edit, click Save trim. Optionally, click Cancel if you change your mind about trimming.

You can also trim from the middle of a chapter by splitting it first, trimming the chapter, and then merging the split chapter back together.

Split or merge chapters

To split a chapter:

  1. Click and drag the playhead in the video progress bar to the desired chapter section of your video. A black bar will appear in the timeline below to illustrate the location of the playhead.
  2. Once you are happy with the playhead position, click Split. The chapter will split where the playhead is located.

To merge multiple chapters together:

  1. Hold the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the desired chapters. Then, click Merge.
  2. A confirmation window will appear asking if you'd like to proceed. When you're ready, click Merge.
