mmhmm cloud sync

Learn how mmhmm's cloud sync feature works.

What is mmhmm cloud sync?

On April 7, 2022, mmhmm cloud sync was enabled on the mmhmm desktop for Mac beta, version 2.3.0. Before mmhmm cloud sync, mmhmm presentations were stored only on your computer. With the launch of mmhmm cloud sync, all the content in your account (presentations, slides, scenes, takes, rooms, and published recordings) are securely synced and stored on the mmhmm cloud.

Your mmhmm content will always be backed up and available to you. Cloud sync is the underlying technology that will be used to build new features going forward, including the ability to collaborate on presentations with other people and more.

Can I opt out of mmhmm cloud sync?

Cloud sync is a standard feature of mmhmm and non-syncing versions of the app are no longer supported. mmhmm cloud sync was built to be safe and secure, but if you don't want your content to be synced to the cloud, you’ll need to uninstall mmhmm from any of your devices that use mmhmm cloud sync.

If you choose to stop using mmhmm, you should export any recordings you want to save before you uninstall mmhmm. After you uninstall mmhmm, you’ll still have access to the metadata, assets, and takes in your presentation, but you’ll no longer be able to use the mmhmm app to combine those assets into playable presentations. You can find these assets in the Application Support > mmhmm folder on your computer.

Can I download an older version of mmhmm that does not need cloud sync?

Previous versions of mmhmm that do not require cloud syncing are no longer offered for download and are no longer supported.

How does mmhmm ensure my content is handled securely?

Your content is securely synchronized to the cloud. It is encrypted according to industry standards (TLS when in transit across the network and AES-256 when encrypted at rest).

Who has access to my synced content?

Access to mmhmm's production environment and user-synced content is restricted to the fewest number of employees needed to maintain our software and provide the service to you. Any access to user-synced content is only for the purposes of providing customer service to you or incidentally through other work done to maintain the software. In addition, mmhmm follows industry-accepted security principles to protect the environment and user-synced content.

How does mmhmm protect my privacy?

mmhmm firmly believes your data is your data and is committed to protecting user privacy with its cloud sync services. Refer to mmhmm's Privacy Principles for a general explanation of how mmhmm views your privacy and how your personal data is handled.

The following covers how mmhmm’s cloud sync complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

We provide transparency and notice around personal data in relation to cloud sync
mmhmm has reviewed changes to how personal data is collected, used, and shared in relation to cloud sync and updated its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to accurately reflect its obligations to users in relation to user personal data.
We maintain records of all processing activities
mmhmm updates and maintains records of personal data processing activities, including data categories, data subject groups, and the purposes for processing personal data. mmhmm maintains records of its processing activities to ensure that all personal data has a proper legal basis for processing, as well as to help support data subject requests.
We only work with third-party information subprocessors that meet our privacy and security requirements

mmhmm uses certain third-party vendors, called subprocessors, who process your personal data at mmhmm’s direction, so that mmhmm may offer cloud sync services. The main subprocessor for mmhmm's cloud sync services is Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS, like all mmhmm subprocessors, is required to have adequate privacy and security controls in place. Additionally, mmhmm only works with vendors who have agreed to a Data Processing Addendum that complies with the GDPR.

mmhmm ensures that all subprocessors comply with the GDPR by reviewing the applicable agreements, security, and privacy policies of such vendors, including periodically reviewing their agreements and practices for ongoing compliance.

This list of third-party information subprocessors includes all third party data processor engaged by mmhmm, the services they provide, and where they process your personal data.

We support international data transfers that comply with the GDPR
mmhmm agrees to execute Standard Contractual Clauses through an updated Data Processing Addendum, where it acts as a processor for personal data.
Our product contains certain features to help support privacy and data subject rights

mmhmm offers the following personal data management tools:

  • Users have the ability to delete content in their account (this functionality is limited to the Teams account owner for Teams accounts).
  • Users may modify account information (this functionality is limited to the Teams account owner for Teams accounts).
  • Users may download copies of their content from their account.
  • Users may modify Privacy/Sharing settings to determine the audience for their content.

What happened to Copilot?

The Copilot feature was removed as part of mmhmm for Mac version 2.3. The technical foundations built for cloud sync allowed more collaboration features to be added to mmhmm, such as conversations. These new features are incompatible with the previous implementation of Copilot.
